For almost 40 years, Lorne Richmond has represented private and public sector trade unions and their members before labour relations boards, arbitrators, and the courts.
Lorne has a particular interest in union organizing campaigns, mergers and inter-union affairs. He represented Ontario bricklayers in their ten-year campaign to win independence from their international union. He also spearheaded the effort to convince the Ontario government to amend the Labour Relations Act to require international unions in the construction industry to demonstrate just cause before placing a local in trusteeship or merging one local with another. More recently, he assisted in achieving improvements to legislation governing training and apprenticeships.
As counsel to a number of multi-employer, trusteed pension and benefit plans in the construction industry, Lorne has also developed an eclectic pension and benefits litigation practice.
Lorne has repeatedly been recognized by his peers as a leading construction labour relations lawyer, including in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Best Lawyers. A founding member of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers, Lorne also served on the Practice Advisory Committee of the Ontario Labour Relations Board for a number of years. In November 2017, he was inducted as a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
